Born in 1999 in Yerevan, into a family of musicians. Sofya took up violin at the age of seven. She has studied at Yerevan Tchaikovsky School of Music for gifted children with Prof. Alexander Kosemyan (2007-2014), and under the guidance of Prof. Artashes Mkrtchyan (2014-2017). Sofya has appeared with annual recitals at various venues of Yerevan. In 2012 she took part in the 2nd International “New Names” Festival of the Young Musicians and Performers by appearing with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra (ANPO) and the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra. In 2015, she appeared in a chamber concert within the framework of the 9th Yerevan International Music Festival, collaborating with famous violinists Ida Kavafian and Levon Chilingirian. Sofya has participated in masterclasses given by renowned musicians such as Kim Kashkashian, Josef Rissin, Daishin Kashimoto, Boris Brovtsyn, Akiko Suwanai, Pavel Vernikov, Ani & Ida Kavafians, Frank Peter Zimmermann, and others. In 2016, on the occasion of the Europe Day celebration, Sofya performed the Bach Double Concerto with the ANPO, under the baton of Maestro Eduard Topchjan. From 2015 Sofya has participated in Chamber Music Concerts of the Yerevan International Music Festival. Among the presented works were: the Brahms Sextet No.1, Shostakovich Piano Quintet, Dvorak String Trio, Chaushyan String Quartet No.6 and other works, which were performed in collaboration with renowned musicians such as Ida Kavafian, Levon Chilingirian, Boris Brovtsyn, Boris Andrianov, Diemut Poppen, to name a few. In 2017 Sofya was invited by renowned German cellist Jan Vogler to take part in the International Moritzburg Music Festival.
She participated in ten days orchestral workshop as well as in chamber music concerts. She was awarded with the Moritzburg Festival Academy Prize for the interpretation of Miklós Rózsa’s Sonata for 2 Violins.
From September 2017-2022, Sofya studied at Hochschule Für Musik Detmold (Germany) with Prof. Maria-Elisabeth Lott, and graduated with the Bachelor’s Degree. During the years of her study at this Conservatory, Sofya has appeared with the Hochschule Orchestra as concertmaster and as an orchestra artist.
It is worth mentioning Sofya’s performance as soloist in 2018 with the ANPO, having in program Ravel’s Tzigane and Edvard Mirzoyan’s Introduction and Perpetuum Mobile (Conductor: Ruben Asatryan). In 2019 Sofya Vardanyan took part in masterclasses of Kronberg Academy, under the guidance of Prof. Pavel Vernikov, and from 2019-2022 in masterclasses of Academia Musicale Santa Cecilia in Bergamo (professors: P.Vernikov, S.Makarova, I.Voloshin). In 2020 she founded a string quartet IDEA, with her student friends and took part in the “Wege durch das Land” Festival in Bad Driburg, getting a high critical acclaim. Within the exchange program of the Detmold Hochschule fur Musik and the Liszt Academy (Hungary), in 2021 Sofya performed a chamber music concert with the students of the Academy (works of Bartrok and Laitha). In April 2022, Sofya took up the Chamber Music Course at the same Conservatory, under the tutelage of the well-known AURYN Quartet. The same year she appeared in a chamber concert at Marienmünster Kammermusik Woche.
From September, 2022 Sofya Vardanyan will continue her education at Vienna Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität (MUK) with the ERASMUS program, under the tutelage of professors Pavel Vernikov and Boris Brovtsyn.
