“Bernd Glemser is the German pianistic miracle of his generation, showcasing an astounding virtuosity coupled with artistic maturity,” reads the newspaper “Badische Zeitung”. “Piano poet” is another title given to him by the specialist press, writing one rave review after the other of German pianist Glemser – a man, who has continuously reaffirmed himself as a world-class pianist decade after decade. His brilliant career found its start at a particularly early age: during his studies, he was awarded 17 prizes in succession – the full range of
contested prizes in the world of pianists, including Corot, ARD, Rubinstein, Busoni, Sydney and many more. In spite of such successes, he has not become a media star or a glamour pianist. Glemser’s full attention has always been directed towards his music and he is committed to its very substance. Superficialities are secondary, since Glemser would never compromise his music. His breathtaking virtuosity paired with highly poetic sensitivity as well as his profound interpretations, individual and refreshing, sink deep into the listener’s memory.
Bernd Glemser has of course played with many prestigious orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich and the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia Rome. He has also collaborated with esteemed conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Dmitrij Kitajenko, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Muhai Tang and Franz Welser-Möst. Furthermore, he has played in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and the Alte
Oper in Frankfurt, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Munich Herkulessaal as well as in the Royal Festival Hall in London and the Musikverein in Vienna.
Over the course of his long career, he has recorded about 35 CDs, most recently Mendelssohn’s “Lieder ohne Worte” and the “Variations sérieuses” at OehmsClassics – which, in his own words, may very well be his most personal recording. Moreover, Bernd Glemser has contributed to countless radio and TV productions and, as if anyone would have doubted it, collaborates with many a friend and colleague for chamber music ensembles.
As early as during his own studies in Saarbrücken, he gained his first professorship. Since 1996, he has been a professor for piano at the University of Music in Würzburg. As of 2006 Bernd Glemser has also been an “Artist in Residence” at the Maulbronn Klosterkonzerte, where he does not only give a series of chamber music concerts, but also an annual master class.
