The Beethoven 250th anniversary in Armenia
“A Pilgrimage to Beethoven”, an all year round festival dedicated to the 250th anniversary of a German genius composer Ludwig van Beethoven, started in Armenia in 2020 like anywhere all over the world. The festival organized by the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of RA was intended to incorporate numerous events – symphony and chamber concerts, recitals, various cultural events in Yerevan and RA provinces to commemorate the legendary composer’s heritage in his eternal struggle against darkness.
The 250th anniversary of Beethoven is one of the largest music events in the world and Armenia did not set aside of the world-wide festivities. All nine symphonies by Beethoven, as well as piano concertos, chamber and vocal heritage have been presented in the course of the festival.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted or halted normal operation of all countries worldwide Armenia being not the exception. However, in 2021 Armenia was able to re-open to the world and within the framework of the festival “A Pilgrimage to Beethoven”, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra started to record all nine symphonies in collaboration with the technical team of the famous Mariinsky Theater from St. Petersburg. This will be a special edition boxset, with audio and video (4k) recordings. And besides, based on the modern tendencies, there will be arranged release for electronic platforms distribution of all nine symphonies.
