Augustin Hadelich has established himself as one of the great violinists of his generation. He has performed with all the major American orchestras, and his increasingly numerous appearances in Great Britain, Europe and the Far East have earned him a phenomenal reputation. Critics praise his outstanding technique, the stringency and persuasiveness of his interpretations and his ravishing tone. In addition to returning to Hamburg again as Associate Artist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Hadelich is Artist in Residence of the Museumorchester in Frankfurt in 21/22 season. He looks forward to his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in October 2021, as well as the world premiere of the violin concerto written for him by the Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy
with the Philharmonie Zuidnederland. Further highlights include engagements with the WDR Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Münchner Philharmoniker, Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony and other orchestras. In spring 2022, he embarks on his recital tour in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt and Paris, among others. Further afield, he performs with Seoul Philharmonic, Taiwan Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, New York Philharmonic, as well as St. Louis, Houston, Indianapolis and Utah Symphonies. In addition to his extensive concert activities in North America, he has performed worldwide with renowned orchestras such as the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Concertgebouworkest, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orquesta Nacional de España, Oslo Philharmonic and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Engagements in the Far East have taken him to the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and NHK Symphony Orchestra. He was Artist-in-Residence with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his debut at the BBC Proms in 2016, the Salzburg Festival in 2018 and the Verbier Festival in 2021.
Hadelich’s recording catalogue includes the concertos of Sibelius, Adès, Tchaikovsky, Lalo, Mendelssohn and Bartók, among others. In 2016 he received a Grammy Award for his recording of the violin concerto “L’Arbre des songes” by Dutilleux. A recording of the 24 Caprices by Paganini was released in January 2018 by Warner Classics. In April 2019 his second album as exclusive artist of the label followed with the concerts of Brahms and Ligeti. He received an Opus Classic Award for his CD “Bohemian Tales”, featuring Dvorák’s violin concerto recorded with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. His latest recording of Bach sonatas and partitas is also high acclaimed by critics. Augustin Hadelich, an American and German citizen, was born in Italy in 1984 to German parents. He studied with Joel Smirnoff at the Juilliard School in New York. Hadelich made a significant career leap in 2006 by winning the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis. Further awards followed: In 2009 he received the prestigious “Avery Fisher Career Grant” in New York. In 2011 he was honoured with a Fellowship of the BorlettiBuitoni Trust. In 2015 Hadelich won the Warner Music Prize, which was awarded for the first time, and in 2016 he received a Grammy Award. In December 2017 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter (UK). The trade magazine “Musical America” elected him “Instrumentalist of the Year” in 2018. He was appointed to the faculty of the Yale School of Music in June 2021. Augustin Hadelich plays a violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù from 1744, known as “Leduc, ex Szeryng”, on loan from the Tarisio Trust.
